Ikea Update!

Now that Jason and I have our tax refund check in hand, we went over to our local Ikea (okay, not so local – we travel about two hours to get there) and did a little shopping for our Master Bedroom. It felt like “Christmas for the house”  according to Jason, and it definitely was worth it.

Yup. We finally got the dresser to match the single one we already had. Now, one wall of our master bedroom is streamlined organization! It’s also where we will be putting our bedroom flat screen (Jason is keen on the idea of watching television in the bedroom now that we need to share the television at night with his brother).

In addition to the dresser, we decided instead of purchasing two new additional nightstands, we are keeping the one we painted all by its lonesome on one side of the bed and decided to add this Malm Dressing Table and make it into a vanity area for my makeup and hair supplies, thus taking it out of our tiny master bedroom to allow more space in there.

Instead of buying a tiny stool or thin bench for the vanity, we opted for this Alve Storage Bench instead. It is considered an office item at Ikea, but actually works wonderfully as a vanity stool with storage (a huge plus!) and the seat is very comfy. We decided that it wouldn’t matter if it was completely black even if the rest of the furniture is more a black-brown. I also am considering reupholstering the seat to a brighter, more airy color and feel.

We decided on the smaller, Kolja round mirror to go above the round mirror purely because we don’t have any round mirrors in our house yet.

This cubed Expedit bookcase is going in our office to help organize it more (look forward to an update on how the office is coming along!) and give it an open feel.

And yes, we got the Tobias chair for our dining room table! Two, actually. Jason was super surprised when we set them up against the table and saw how much space we gained by going with clear, thin chairs instead of our old bulky wooden ones. We only purchased two right now because we still don’t use the dining table extensively as a dining area and having a full set would be a waste right now.

These new couch covers were an unexpected purchase at the end of our shopping trip. I just wanted to “take a look” and see if they had any lighter covers, and then they had these on the bottom row. I literally jumped for joy. I think Jason may have been embarrassed. I had been oohing and aahing over these on their website for quite some time, but they had been out of stock. But it was my lucky day, and they had two. I have been worried about the couches being too dark for our living for some time, and these will really lighten things up!

We also bought a few doors for our Expedit bookcases that we already had – we figured it we are going to be messy, we can at least hide it in our shelving behind closed doors. My favorite is the tinted glass door we purchased for the sideways black Expedit bookcase we currently use as a “bar” inbetween our kitchen and dining room. It will be used to hide the dog medicine, clippers, etc. and keep it uniform more as a bar instead of a throw-everything-on-it shelf.

Once everything is built (sigh) and put together, we’ll show you how our new and improved Master Bedroom will look! Oh yes, and show the improvement on the office, too.
